aversion therapy - used to break bad habits. Whenever the bad habit occurs, such as lighting up a cigarette, an aversive stimulus, such as an electric shock, is given. If these pairings are made often enough, the patient learns to change the values of the stimuli (i.e. the bad habits) from positive to negative.
