- daniel chandler's
- One of the best collections of media and communication resources I have discovered. Many of the fundamental concepts are explained in a readily comprehensible, step-by-step manner, very approachable for a student new to the subject area, but sufficiently detailed to be useful to anyone who already knows it in depth. The limpidity of Chandler's style is a refreshing change from much of the apparently willful obfuscation which paradoxically prevails in communication studies. Plenty of links here, too.
- rob van craenenburg's
- Rob Van Craenenburg's Ghent-based cultural studies site, which seeks to provide solutions to the problem of "teaching culture in a non-linear environment". "We propose to offer an environment that precisely encourages this extra-educational 'tool' while ensuring via pedagogic markers and 'learning moments' at every pedagogical step (read: WWW page), an adequate and intellectually sound learning environment" is the site's rationale. The site's materials are clearly grounded in the attempt to give cultural studies a firm basis of practical application, including 'stories' which demonstrate in a thought-provoking manner how this can be done. An important resource for the overworked teacher as well as a source of interest for anyone into cultural studies. Robin Markowitz of Cultural Studies Central refers to van Craeneburg's "groundbreaking pedogogical interventions. An extraordinary site about an even more extraordinary project"
- media channel
- Launched in February 2000, this highly ambitious site, run by OneWorld, sets out to become "the Internet supersite for reliable and critical information about media worldwide". Looks like they're pretty much there already.
- sarah zupko's
- Sarah Zupko is a member of the HTM Writers' Guild - and it shows! A beautiful looking site with myriad links to fascinating articles on cultural studies. Also an interesting home page, in which she almost admits to being quite an interesting. Has an interest in German too, with some unusual links.
- robin markowitz's
- Cultural Studies Central says of itself: 'CSC features original interactive commentary and analysis, links to the best cultural studies resources on the planet, and pointers to exciting and superior World Wide Web projects devoted to special cultural studies interests.' That about sums it up. Cultural Studies Central is where we go to learn.
- alan liu's
- Alan Liu's Voice of the Shuttle has links to every communication, media, cultural studies, literary theory resource in the known universe (and more).
- john lye's
- Very readable resources here on communication and literary theory - complex stuff clearly expressed.
- matthew parrott's
- Must be among the first ports of call for (especially British) teachers and students of media. Regularly updated TV listings, up-to-date media news, an electronic 'staffroom' where you can swap ideas, links and more.
- david gauntlett's
- Based in the University of Leeds, a beautifully designed site with articles on Adorno, Judith Butler, Foucault, Gramsci, queer theory and more. Each article is followed by a comprehensive bibliography and links to on-site and externally linked materials. Don't miss the link to David's home page.
- chris
livesey's
- Chris's 'Sociology Central' is not specifically for communication, cultural
and media studies, but there are loads of links and downloadable materials
here which are likely to be of use to both teachers and students in those
areas.
