- Association of
Investigative Journalists
- According to this British website's editor, modern journalists are a lazy
bunch who just regurgitate whatever governments and the newswires feed them,
so this site sets out to put that right.
- The Big Lie: the
Truth about Advertising, London: Random Thoughts Limited
- Extensive extracts from Chuck Anderson's book. Providing insights from both
sides of the fence, as Anderson has been both creative director and
advertising researcher, this book should be of great interest to students of
media and communication, both for its insider knowledge and its refreshing
lack of the obscurantist jargon of media studies.

call.
- Criticism.com
- online magazine of media theory, criticism and activism. Only one issue when I went there, but this is looking good.
- CyberNewseum

worth waiting for, including the space race, the Holocaust, presidential
campaigns, the Berlin Wall and more.
- Department of Culture, Media and Arts
- UK Government department
- English Teaching in the UK

British) teachers and students of media. Regularly updated TV listings, up-to-date
media news, an electronic 'staffroom' where you can swap ideas, links and
more.
- MC-Net
- Media Channel's Networking and Collaboration e-List. "MC-Net,
delivered to you in the form of an email every Thursday morning, will
include brief requests and announcements from across the MediaChannel
network."
- The
Media and Communication Studies Page
- One of the best collections of media and communication
resources I have discovered. Put together by Prof. Daniel Chandler at the
University of Wales, this has much of the pragmatic approach one would expect
of a practising teacher. Many of the fundamental concepts are explained in
a readily comprehensible, step-by-step manner, very approachable for a student
new to the subject area, but sufficiently detailed to be useful to anyone
who already knows it in depth. The limpidity of Chandler's style is a refreshing
change from much of the apparently willful obfuscation which paradoxically
prevails in communication studies. Plenty of links here, too.
- Media Guardian
- Produced by the Guardian newspaper, UK. A round-up of the latest developments in the media world - takeovers, mergers, IPOs, new TV projects, new magazine launches etc. - gossip from the media world, condensed stories and major headlines from the specialist trade press etc. An invaluable insight into current developments in the media (especially in the UK).

weblog
- Jim Romenesko's weblog of US media gossip
- Media
Studies Site
- Steve Baker's site for students of 'A' Level Media
Studies. Still under development, but looking very promising. Loads of useful
stuff on
- audiences
- media effects
- stereotypes
- film
- genre
etc., as well as practical advice on writing essays,
doing the project, selecting a university course - and more. Written for the
'A' Level student, this is very approachable. The site also includes a message
forum. Keep an eye on this one!
- Mediawatchuk
- Site run by National Viewers' and Listeners' Association. "By
propagating degrading values and models of behaviour, by broadcasting
pornography and graphic depictions of brutality and violence, by inculcating
moral relativism so much has been done to undermine cohesion and stability
in our society. Improving programme standards would benefit everyone and
harm no-one."

journalism is supposed to be. A very valuable resource indeed.
- Planet Project
- I'm not really sure where this belongs on the site, but it's interesting
anyway. Intriguing project to find out what it is like to be a human being
at the beginning of the twenty-first century. A survey was conducted on-line
in several languages simultaneously, covering 1,260,083 respondents from
across the globe. Questions ranged across health and well-being, law and
